NEW ROBBO SPECIAL COURSE ON PREPARING FOR COMPETITIONS

The new academic year has begun and students around the world have started their classes at ROBBO CLUB
The ROBBO methodical department has released a new special course for competition preparation, which includes two sections: preparation for the International Scratch Olympiad for creative programming (will take part spring-autumn 2024) and the International Competition of Young Engineers and Robotics ROBBO Fest (will take part March-June 2024).
By completing this course, our students
  • will improve their skills in creating IT projects from idea to final project,
  • become familiar with the criteria of these competitions and the works of past winners,
  • improve their skills in self-presentation and video presentation of projects,
  • increase their chances of winning prizes.

The course begins with a business game in which children create their tree of goals and place competitions and Olympiads on it, formulating the internal need for preparation and participation in creative challenges.

In the first part of the course, children will study the regulations of competitions in which they can participate, examine the works of winners, independently develop a prototype of a competition work and design it for submission to a competition or Olympiad, and also conduct mutual evaluation as part of creative groups.
In the second part, students will be immersed in project activities aimed at identifying and solving real problems underlying a competition or Olympiad project.

The program is designed for children who have already completed the ROBBO course for children aged 5-6 years old "Game Robotics", or the course for children aged 7-8 years old "First Steps in Robotics", or the course for children aged 9-10 years old "Engineering Robotics" and have experience participating in competitions and Olympiads.

The course helps to increase motivation in the in-depth study of complex technical education topics such as circuitry, 3D modeling, construction, and programming.
The special course for preparation for the International Scratch Olympiad for creative programming consists of several parts:

Part one: What are competitions and Olympiads, how to create a project idea, and what is a project prototype.

At this stage, we discuss various competition events, form an understanding of why to participate in them, and discuss what a prototype of a competition work is.

Part two: Development of a presentation of the prototype of the competition project.

The child takes on different roles:

  • young screenwriter, learning to write a script for presenting a competition work/project;
  • young director, learning to shoot a video presentation for a competition work/project;
  • young sound engineer, learning to voice a video presentation for a competition work/project;
  • young artist, learning to design a presentation for a competition work/project.

We also prepare a presentation of the prototype of the competition project.
Part three: From prototype to creative project, project activities

What we will do:

  • Code the basis of the project according to the criteria of the selected competition(s)
  • Code additional effects of the project according to the criteria of the selected competition(s)
  • Code borrowed best ideas from winning projects according to the criteria of the selected competition(s)
  • Code author's additions to the project according to the criteria of the selected competition(s)
  • Learn how to present your competition project: presentation of the competition work and refinement based on feedback

Part four: Technology for submitting an application for a competition.

  • Learn how to register on a mail service
  • Register on the competition website. Fill out a participant profile.
  • Learn the rules of communication with the competition organizing committee.
  • Learn the rules for filing appeals.
  • Post your certificate or diploma in an electronic portfolio (optional)

In the next article, we will tell you more about the ROBBO Fest International Competition of Young Engineers and Robotics and what sections the special course for preparation for this competition prepared by the ROBBO methodical department includes.
